Natural Hair Masks for Damaged Hair

Sea, sand, sun… Summer months and holidays that we all look forward to are great breaks to have fun and relax. However, it is a fact that the sun and sea damage our skin and hair. Now is the time to repair damaged hair. The natural cures you will apply to your hair using various herbs and oils will strengthen your hair without damaging it and make it look well-groomed.

Mask for Dry Hair

Masks containing natural oils such as olive oil, argan oil, and coconut oil applied 1-2 times a week are highly effective on easily damaged dry hair. After applying pure olive oil, either cold or slightly warmed, wait for 30-60 minutes and wash your hair. Do not forget to massage your scalp during the application.

It would be best to wait longer (at least 2 hours) when applying argan oil and coconut oil. If possible, apply these oils before going to bed at night and wash your hair when you wake up in the morning for maximum benefit.

You can also apply coconut oil to damp hair after a shower as a leave-in conditioner. If you apply it this way, you should use a tiny amount. Otherwise, your hair will look greasy. However, when used correctly, your hair will be easily combed and look soft and shiny when dry.

Mask for Normal Hair

You can apply natural cures 1-2 times weekly to make normal hair look stronger and more vibrant. You can use mayonnaise, honey and apple cider vinegar as a mask for this hair type.

Mayonnaise is rich in protein, amino acids, and antioxidants. Apply a small cup of mayonnaise (90 ml.) to clean and damp hair; leave it for half an hour before washing it off your hair. For best results, opt for homemade mayonnaise without any additives.

If your hair type is normal, but you have difficulty combing it either because it’s very thin or thick, you can benefit from the softening effect of honey. Dissolve one tablespoon of honey in a glass of warm water and transfer the mixture into a spray bottle. After applying this cure to clean hair, wait 15 minutes before rinsing it off.

If you want shinier hair, add one teaspoon of apple cider vinegar to the cold rinsing water in the shower. Do not worry about the smell since the vinegar smell will disappear as soon as your hair dries.

Mask for Oily Hair

Oily hair needs extra care as it has to be washed more often than normal and dry hair. Plants with a refreshing effect will relax your scalp leaving a cool and clean sensation, especially in summer. The plants on top of the list are aloe vera and lemon. Add one tablespoon of aloe vera gel and lemon juice to a glass of shampoo, apply this mixture to your hair and rinse after waiting for a few minutes. This cure is suitable for daily use.

Another refreshing plant is mint. Mint also promotes hair growth since it accelerates blood circulation. Adding a few drops of mint oil to your shampoo will delay oily scalp and make your hair grow faster.

If you think conditioners increase oil secretion in your hair, you can use bananas instead of conditioners. Mash the banana and add one tablespoon of honey. Apply this mixture to your hair and wait for 20 minutes before rinsing your hair. Rich in potassium, this mixture will nourish your hair.

Everything You Need to Know About Hair Care

Regardless of your hair type, it would be best to get split ends trimmed at least once every six months. The trimmed hair looks healthier and grows faster. Adequate and balanced nutrition intake is essential for your hair. Foods such as protein yoghurt, lentils, eggs, chicken, fish, fruits, vegetables, and nuts (especially walnuts and sunflower seeds) will strengthen your hair.
